Each business in this post was carefully selected, majority of which are women owned and/or Black owned. We hope you enjoy shopping these small Minneapolis shops as much as we did!
Make sure you check out our 13 Milwaukee local business gift guide as well!
SPOONFUL OF FAITH
For your best gal pals….
We discovered this Minnesota shop through Wunmi’s co-worker, and our lives are better because of it! The founder Jenna Holliday is an amazing black illustrator who specializes in joyful + whimsical designs. She has turned her creations into a shop where she sells T-shirts, mugs, murals, and our personal favorite, this incredible POC coloring book. What we love about her style is that it is a celebration of womanhood, diversity, and faith. We all could use a #spoonfuloffaith these days, so give her shop a look!
DotPlaid by Chris
For that special handwritten note….
Hand dyed and handmade cards that leave you feeling good! Artist and founder, Chris, offers custom order cards that she dyes and letters herself! Each card is uniquely made so that no two cards are identical.
We ordered 3 holiday cards to give to family members this holiday season, and two friendship cards that Chris helped us create. She was the sweetest to work with! You can get a single card for only $6 or you can order the cards in a bulk pack. This amazing Minnesota company also donates 10% to Sandy Hook. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving.
For custom orders, you can email Chris directly at chris@dotplaid.com.
Gus Dean Coffee
For the coffee lover….
Dare we say the best coffee we’ve ever had? And we aren’t just saying that because this company is Black owned AND locally owned. Gus Dean and his crew are doing something incredibly right because they offer a wide selection of flavorful, quality coffee. His coffee has been a staple for us since we discovered it at the beginning of quarantine. Each order is delivered with a handwritten note from Gus himself and it makes our day every time! We recommend trying out them all, but the must orders are his signature Salty Carmel and the classic French Roast.
Woolly Bear KNITS
For those cozy winter months….
High quality cozy materials at reasonable prices! One of the things we love most about this company is that everything is ethically sourced. Meaning faux fur and cruelty-free. They have so many unique patterns, it’s hard to choose just one! You get to choose the knit pattern and the pom pom color. They have hats for both adults and kids, so that you can get cozy knits for the whole family. We can’t wait to get matching ones ourselves!
Pitched
For that person who prefers an “experience”
Pitched is one of our favorite Minneapolis businesses that we’ve discovered this year. They offer affordable backyard Glamping that is convenient, fun, and covid-friendly. We used their service this fall and had the BEST time. Consider gifting someone a Glamping experience for the Spring! They fill up quickly, so take a look at their calendar for available dates. They are also offering indoor “tiny tents” for the colder months.
Boundless Grace Clothing
For the person who shows up fashionably late….
We first heard about this company because the owners attend Wunmi’s church. It’s an online fashion boutique where the pieces aren’t $1000 dollars! The owners Whit & Chris are a #supercouple because not only did they get married during a global pandemic, they kickstarted this amazing company all in the same year! Boundless Grace Clothing is filled with great pieces like this “Babes Support Babes” tie dye tee and this cozy lounge set. Looks like they are selling out fast, so get your love ones some BGCO quick!
Embellish a Little Co.
For the cultural appreciator (not the cultural appropriator)
Black owned, women owned, and locally owned. We love to see it! This company specializes in traditional African prints called “ankara”, and with it make everything from blazers to jumpsuits. Wunmi is personally excited to rock this bright yellow dress she ordered from Embellish when the weather warms up!
We also ordered a few of their face masks earlier this year. You can use code 2020 for 20% off through Cyber Monday.
Butterberry Hill
For that person with the sweetest tooth….
We learned about this husband and wife bakery through Instagram and fell in love! They were kind enough to let us try their Pumpkin Spice and Chocolate Chip cookies, and we quickly ordered 5 more boxes! Each box is $15 and comes cutely packaged with 12 cookies. These make for the perfect stocking stuffers and are simply delicious. And they just added a gluten free option!
Urban Undercover
For the travel dreamer….
This is the perfect gift for that wanderlust soul who is seeking her latest adventure. This company has a variety of Accessory pouches all with kitschy travel sayings. The pouches are a great size to store things like jewelry or travel photos, and are only $20. They also offer larger travel totes if you are looking for something with a bit more space. A cute + practical gift!
Clay by Anja
For the person who likes to make a statement….
We could not be more thrilled about this local online jewelry shop! Clay by Anja offers specialty statement earrings that are well made and won’t break the bank! Anja has such a great selection of pieces from studs to hoops with the most amazing feminine details.
We always struggle to get gifts for our moms and sisters but this year Clay by Anja has us covered! Prices range from $15 to $21 a pair.
Black Garnet Bookstore
For the ultimate book lover….
Have you heard of this local bookstore? We have to give them all the props because they are a successful bookstore located in the Twin Cities that is Black, women-owned. We bow down. Check out their amazing selection of books primarily from Black and racially diverse authors. Their recent books that have caught our eye are Grown and Something Happened in Our Town.
Rituals
For that person who could use some self care (which is all of us)….
This mother daughter duo is on a mission to promote health and wellness all throughout Minnesota. Their products are handmade, perfectly curated for a relaxing and healthy experience. Check out their paraben-free lotions and signature body butter. We especially love their soy candles for a relaxing bath. Oh, and did we mention they are women + Black owned?!
Teeny Bee Boutique
For the cutest kiddos in town…
It can be challenging to find local shops geared towards children, so we were super excited when we recently discovered Teeny Bee Shop located in St. Paul. They offer the cutest toddler and baby clothing, as well as unique toys and books. Wunmi has 8 niece and nephew, and Sophia is welcoming her first nephew early next year! We were able to find some really special pieces like this ABC’s of the 80’s Book and this avocado PJ set to gift this holiday season.
Thank you for shopping local with us! We’d love to hear which businesses you end up supporting. Have a happy + safe holiday season 🙂
