Summerfest: the music festival you can’t miss

Festival grounds

It’s that time of the year again…summer in the Midwest; the most beautiful season with one too many events your calendar and wallet can’t handle. But, we’re here to tell you about one of our favorite events of the summer and how you can save some $$$ while attending it. Keep reading to learn more about Summerfest: why it’s the music festival you can’t miss!

Summerfest

Phil Vassar, Selena Gomez, Gavin DeGraw, Lizzo, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Matisyahu…what do they all have in common? Each of these amazing artists have headlined at Summerfest within the past few years!

Summerfest is the world’s largest music festival, with performers from all different genres represented. There are 12 stages with over 800 acts and over 1,000 performances over the course of the 3 consecutive weekends. This year’s dates are June 23-25, June 30-July 2 and July 7-9. Summerfest gates open at noon with live performances going on until midnight each day.

Milwaukee World Festival

2022 Lineup

With 11 free stages on the Summerfest grounds, there is something for every one. Our favorite thing to do is preview the lineup, pick out a few of our favorite artists to see, grab a drink, and walk the festival grounds in between shows. We love to keep it spontaneous with no solidify plans!

There are a few headliners we’re excited about this year though. Steve Aoki, 2 Chainz, Alessia Cara, Boyz II Men, Timeflies, Dillion Francis, JoJo, Lupe Fiasco & Corinne Bailey Rae…to name just a few!

But, if there’s an Amphitheater performer that catches our eyes, we’ll usually spot them out when they’re announced in the Spring and will purchase tickets ahead of time.

Amphitheater tickets are separate from Summerfest general admission tickets and are for a specific performer or artist at…you guessed it…Amphitheater stage. These tickets do include general entrance to the festival as well but are generally more expensive tickets since they include concert tickets to top artists.

Big names that we think are worth seeing at the Amphitheater? Halsey, Backstreet Boyz & Thomas Rhett! One of our favorites from past festivals? Willie Nelson, below.

Fest Activities

It’s not just the music that brings us to Summerfest. We love all of the other fun activities and the great festival food! There’s a laundry list of NEW and annual activities we’re so excited for!

  1. Enjoy our great Lake Michigan with free paddleboarding and boating along the shores at the Summerfest Landing. NEW: free acoustic concert with Rodney Atkins along the lakefront!
  2. NEW: cheer on the Brewers with an official tailgate at Summerfest on July 2nd at 3:00pm at the Gruber Law Offices Sportzone.
  3. Snack on a sampler platter at Saz’s…we won’t share our motz sticks!
  4. Take in the spectacular views of Summerfest, Milwaukee’s downtown, and Lake Michigan on the giant Ferris wheel located on the south end of the grounds.
  5. Celebrate the magic at the annual Summerfest Big Bang Fireworks Show live on the grounds at 9:30pm on opening night, June 26th.

Milwaukee World Festival

Easy Way to Save Money

What we love about Summerfest is how affordable this event can be!

From May 25th to June 14th, receive 2 Free General Admission tickets with the purchase of $25 in participating items in a single transaction with your Fresh Perks Card at any Pick ‘n Save or Metro Market store.

Festival day ticket:

  • General admission $25
  • Child (ages 3-10) $6
  • Senior (62 and over) $20

If you plan to attend the festival more than one day, you can purchase a multi-pass bundle to save $$$! Otherwise, here are all of the promotions Summerfest is running for daily general admission. There’s a way to save on tickets every single day!

Although a separate ticket is needed to see concerts in the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, that ticket includes your admission to Summerfest on the day of your show. That means you can enjoy the other 11 free stages during the day before your main event at night!

To save money on Amphitheater tickets, head to the Summerfest ticket office and buy your tickets directly there. There are no fees when you buy in person (forget those online fees)!

So, who’s coming to Summerfest with us this year?! We already have our Amphitheater tickets to see Justin Bieber on June 24th, and we’re planning to see Timelines on July 1st at the Miller Lite Oasis (free) Stage! Comment if you’ll be there!

Learning how to ski in your 30s is a little different than when the Olympians start at age 3 😅

I learned the hard way…with a few wipeouts and plenty of bruises. I may not be the next Eileen Gu, but I can absolutely excel at après-ski. 💁🏻‍♀️

A little over 4 hours from the Twin Cities, @bigpowderhornmtn in the UP was a great place to start. I took a lesson, made my way down a few green runs (or tumbled down), and honestly had a great time.

So where do Minnesotans think the best beginner hills are around here?

@lutsenmountains? @aftonalps? @buckhill? Somewhere else we should try before the season ends?

Have you tried this new group activity in the North Loop yet??

📍Fowling Warehouse opened up not too long ago and it’s such a fun + unique activity that you and your friends will love!

It’s a blend between football and bowling 😆 so you split into teams and work together to hit the opponents pins down with the football.

They have 21 lanes (**not 30 oops) and a full bar - perfect for a team outing or a group hang! We had a blast and couldn’t stop laughing 🤭.

Think you’ll give it a try?

February showed up with its own mix of weight and warmth.

We made space for celebration where we could—culture, community, friendship, and love in all its forms—while staying present in what’s happening around us.

Holding both is complicated, but that’s where we are…🤍

We’re on a mission to find the coziest local cafe in the Twin Cities, and @momocafemn might be up there.

We love when a place feels like it was built with intention. This one comes from a Tibetan immigrant wanting to create a warm, inviting space around coffee, matcha, and community. You can just feel that when you walk in.

Tibetan artwork, unique matcha latte blends, comforting dumplings, and a space that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

What’s a cozy cafe you always come back to?

Only 4.5 hours from MSP to paradise. 🌴

If you’re looking for a tropical babymoon that doesn’t require a 12-hour travel day, Grand Cayman is the move!! A quick direct flight from MSP for fresh seafood, crystal clear beaches, and early bedtimes 🥰

Why it’s Babymoon-Friendly:
✨Zero Jet Lag: Little to no time zone change from MN depending on when you go.
✨Quite Accessible: The island is small, fairly walkable, and very safe.
✨Perfect Pace: It’s built for early nights, with most of the excitement happening during the day.
✨Easy Flight: With both Delta and Sun Country offering direct flights, you can get there in 4.5 hrs.

What to Do:
✔️Seven Mile Beach
✔️Snorkeling
✔️Catamarán Sail
✔️Swim with Stingrays
✔️Botanical Gardens
✔️Crystal Caves

Keeping it 💯: Grand Caymans is not a thrifty destination! We used hotel points and airline buddy passes to keep the costs down, but food and housing can get pretty pricey, so plan ahead! 3-4 nights is more than enough to experience this babymoon getaway.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about where we stayed or excursions we booked!
