We created this list of the best free things to do in Paris to help.
It is absolutely possible to plan a budget friendly trip to the ‘City of Lights’. When we visited recently, we managed to keep daily spending to $90 per person; this included transportation, meals, and many activities in Paris.
One of the main ways we were able to keep our spending so low was because we found tons of free things to do in Paris. From historical sites to art museums, you’d be surprised by how many things you can do that are completely FREE!

Free things to do in PARIS
1. CITY PARKS & GARDENS
Stroll through one of the many city parks such as Jardin des Tuileries, Jardin des Plantes, Le Jardin du Luxemboug. Bring a book, lean up against a tree, and relax.
2. LOVE MURAL
Take photos in front of the Wall of Love and learn how to say “I Love You” in 250 languages. The wall is located inside the the free Jehan Rictus garden square in Montmartre, Paris.
3. LOCK BRIDGE
Visit ‘Lock Bridge’ to count all of the locks that couples have put on the bridges along the Seine River. Previously, couples could write their names on padlocks, lock it on the bridge, and throw the keys into the river to symbolize love locked forever.
This activity is no longer allowed because of the weight of the locks. But, the old locks are still displayed along the bridge and it is quite the site to see.
4. THE EIFFEL TOWER
Marvel at the Eiffel Tower during the day or lit up at night. Grab a blanket and snacks from the corner bodega and have a picnic in front of one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
5. SACRE-COEUR BASILICA
Hike to the top of the hill in Montmartre neighborhood to visit the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. Experience the free (& best) view of the whole city of Paris from this outlook. Sit on the steps and enjoy the free entertainment from street artists.
6. TROCADERO
Watch the sunrise at the Trocadero. This popular tourist destination is where you’ll get some of the best, most stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. It’s an expansive complex of museums (not so free!), sculptures, gardens, and fountains.
7. MONTMARTRE NEIGHBORHOOD
Fall in love with the charming neighborhood of Montmartre. Considered one of the most historic districts in Paris, you’ll be mesmerized by the sweeping views, winding roads and beautiful street art.
We recommend walking along the cobbled streets and taking in all of this neighborhood’s charm.
8. MOULIN ROUGE WINDMILL
Visit the red windmill of the Moulin Rouge. Although the shows themselves aren’t free, it’s absolutely free to admire the building from the outside! It makes for a great photo op!
9. PONT ALEXANDRE III BRIDGE
Check out the most beautiful bridge in Paris: Pont Alexandre III. This deck arch bridge spans the Seine River and connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with the Invalides and Eiffel Tower.
It’s one of the most extravagant and elegant bridges in Paris that needs to be seen in person.
